Broke Mountain Bluegrass Band (brokemountain.com)
"The SPPS is an awesome organization with an excellent cause. The preservation
of music is a noble and wonderful thing.... especially when the music is really, really good!
There is something very special about being able to listen to a jam involving three
or four of your musical heroes pickin' in a kitchen some 30 or 40 years ago
and by aquiring these tapes and releasing them to the public, the SPPS is
connecting the history of bluegrass / acoustic music with the present and
future. Every once in a while, Broke Mountain gets to play in venues where we know
Hartford or some other hero of ours has played and to play one or two of their
tunes in the same place that they have done the same thing years and years ago
can be pretty magical. Listening to some of the SPPS tapes gives me that same
feeling of connection to something greater. Our music has a long and twisted
history... Thanks SPPS for working to share some of the coolest parts of that
history with the world"- Anders Beck, Broke Mountain
The Broke Mountain Bluegrass Band plays hard driving, high energy
bluegrass music. With one foot firmly rooted in the traditions and structures of bluegrass music and the other foot pressed firmly on the gas pedal, this exciting new band brings a young energy to our country's oldest music. Since the inception of the band in the Spring of 2003, Broke Mountain has been wowing audiences and gaining fans from Oregon to North Carolina. After only two months of playing together, Broke Mountain was awarded the prestigious first place award in the 2003 Rockygrass Band Competition in Lyons Colorado, while members of the band also won first place in the mandolin and banjo contests. In the summer of 2004, Broke Mountain released their much celebrated first album "Cabin In the Hills",
which contains mostly original material and will surely stand the test of time.
Whether Broke Mountain is playing to a festival audience, a roomful of
seasoned bluegrass fans or a crowded bar, these young guns put on an exciting, high energy show that is very fun!
Often compared to a young Seldom Scene because of their similar
instrumentation,
strong harmonies and unique songs, their live shows exude an energy that grabs
a
hold of seasoned bluegrass fans and newcomers alike. Broke Mountian is able to
play and sing impeccable bluegrass music while not taking themselves too seriously and having lots of fun. Quite simply... their music is infectious- don't miss this band!!
Broke Mountain is made up of Anders Beck on dobro, Travis Book on bass and vocals, Robin Davis on mandolin and vocals, Jon Stickley on guitar and vocals, and Andy Thorn on banjo and vocals.
