Hot Buttered Rum

"American acoustic music continues to barrel right along. There are so many great bands, great festivals, great fans. The success of the Steam Powered Preservation Society speaks to the health of this thriving, robust scene. People are paying attention. SPPS has recovered and digitized the Tut tapes... what's next? I can't wait! I'll bet we soon see young string bands playing the songs SPPS has brought back into circulation. This is noble work and SPPS has done an excellent job harnessing the energy of the people who love this music. Hot Buttered Rum is at your service. " -Nat Keefe July 2005

In the summer of 1999, Hot Buttered Rum headed for California's Sierra Nevada mountains in search of the high lonesome sound of mountain music. After a month of hiking, climbing, pickin' & singin', HBR brought back a new sound: High Altitude Bluegrass.

Hot Buttered Rum's music nods to the past and sits squarely in the present. The music appeals to traditional bluegrass aficionados as well as the most discerning folk audiences and dance-hungry jam-band fans. HBR thrives in both quiet concert settings and wild dance halls. A truly multi-generational audience is growing around this group of musicians who deliver a fresh sound grounded in tradition.
